1. Stevenage Hockey Club Juniors

Welcome to Stevenage Hockey Club Juniors.

We have an exciting, fun and growing junior section for those aged 5-18 years.
We run our junior sessions on Sunday mornings at The Nobel School, Stevenage from 10.00-11.00. These sessions are run by our dedicated, qualified junior coaches and volunteers.

Our aim is to provide safe and fun hockey for your children. We pride ourselves on being a family orientated club, offering sessions for children of all abilities to learn and play hockey, to enjoy physical activity and make new friends.

We offer three free taster sessions for your child or children to come along, give it a try, see if they like it and want to carry on.

Membership Options

Our Annual Junior membership is only £30 per child. This membership rate is for every child under age 18 and discounts are available for family/sibling groups.
Junior Membership includes:

• Annual Membership to Stevenage Hockey Club running from time of purchase through to the following September – so September 2024.
• In season Sunday coached sessions running from September through to March – normally around 20 sessions (weather dependant).
• Out of season coached Sunday sessions running May to August – normally between 15-20 sessions
• The loan of a hockey stick for as long as your child needs it / until they have their own
• Membership to Stevenage Cricket & Hockey Club Clubhouse and Bar

We know that £30 for a year of sport sessions, up to approx.40 is fantastic value, one of the best offers in the area for regular, qualified coaching sessions.

Age 13+
Those age 13+ may attend both adult training (Tuesday for boys or Wednesday for girls) and the Sunday junior sessions during hockey season (Sept-Mar). If ability allows, they may also play in our adult Saturday league matches.

We’d recommend once they are 13 and playing adult matches, that they do attend adult training. There is no additional charge for attending both.

So for those aged 13+ the offer is substantially more, offering a further 30 mid-week adult training sessions alongside the Sunday junior sessions, a total of up to 70 sessions, for £30.

FAQ’s

Where is Nobel?
Mobbsbury Way, Stevenage SG2 0HS – there is lots of parking available onsite

What does my child need?

All children that attend are required to wear their own shin pads and gumsheild. Both easily and cheaply available in sports shops or online. We will provide a stick as needed, when ready you can by a junior stick for around £7-20.

Footwear - we suggest comfy, supportive sports shoes, trainers are just fine, or hockey astro trainers. Football boots are ok but only those without studs, no studs are allowed on the pitch surface. Plimsoles/Converse/pump style shoes are not recommended.

Clothing – comfy sporty clothes, whatever they have is fine, we don’t expect them to have special kit or clothing. Shorts/joggers and a t-shirt work well.

A bottle of water/a drink and suncream as you see fit.

Do I need to stay? Can I stay and watch?

Under 8s: Parents should bring their child to the coach in person, remain by the pitch area for the whole session and then collect your child or children in person from the coach. Age 9 or 10: Please let the coaching know if you are not staying in the pitch area.

Lots of our parents bring a coffee and sit outside the pitch cage area and chat whilst their kids have their session.

If you child is new to hockey and a bit nervous, we have no issue with you joining in/getting involved with them to help them settle for the first session.

Are your coaches qualified and DBS checked.
Yes: All our coaches are DBS checked and all have formal England Hockey coaching qualifications.

How do I register to come along and give it a go?

All participants must be registered and signed up before attending/turning up. Children will not be permitted to the session until you have registered them.

To register: click the Join button at the top of our website https://www.stevenagehc.co.uk/ simply fill in the required fields, including emergency contact details and any medical conditions we need to know about, read and agree to our club policies and your done.

The website is also accessible via an app called ‘Pitchero’ which you can download from the Apple or Play store, once installed you select Stevenage Hockey Club and follow the above steps. We would recommend this method.
