Good hockey from both teams

Ladies 3s hosted Luton 1s.

The ladies 3s have played Luton 1s for many years, historically this is always a good hard fought game, can always go either way, consistently friendly but a good battle and competitive.
Todays game was no different. Luton were top table going into this game, so we knew it wasn’t going to be an easy match.

It was a strong start from both teams in the opening minutes with an even share of possession but Stevenage ladies quickly found their rhythm and took control of large parts of the first half. The play in the first half was quick, short-passing and hard for Luton to hold back the tide. An intercepted pass then saw Julie Rhodes slipped in onto the edge of the D and she fired home a fantastic strike. It wasn’t long after that, with space again on the right, the ball was passed long up to Holly Manning, who speedily and calmly played around and through three defenders just outside the D to take a cracking shot at goal, netting our second goal of the game. A well-played, considered and patient first half for the ladies 3s.

The second half saw Luton pick up their game and come back at us and, with Stevenage showing some tired legs and a little less puff, Luton were able to get a goal back mid half. Stevenage were still pushing though and having good possession, although not quite as much as the first half. A short corner for Stevenage saw Julie Rhodes strike one to the backboard bringing the score to 3-1. Luton didn’t give up, with some very quick distribution across their back-line then attacking down the left, saw a decent cross to a Luton forward in the D who nipped it in the net.

Final result was a win and 3 points to Stevenage, 3-2. Mom went to our skipper Becs McGreilis
