It was a chilly start on Saturday but the Stevenage L5s were on fire, against Berko & Hemel 4s, in a late afternoon 5-0 thriller away at Tring.
The defensive unit was rarely troubled and it was all about the forwards this week in a balanced and sustained performance that saw the L5s 3-0 up at half-time, with two more notched up in the second half.
The opposition struggled to break through the Stevenage press, with almost all clearances trapped by the first or second lines of defence. These quick turnovers bolstered the L5s confidence and they pressed high to overload the D.
Backed by considerable strength and creativity in midfield, feeding balls into danger areas from both flanks, the score could have been double on the day. Frustratingly, there were several near misses when the little round orange thing wouldn’t go between the two white stickie things!
Nevertheless it was goals in numbers for Sarah Hoar who scored four, topped off in the dying minutes of the game by Frances Rea’s blistering effort, which saw her pick her way through a goalmouth melée and roof it, past the goalie’s ear.
Stevenage L5s were back to winning ways, and with a clean sheet to boot.
POTM: Sarah Hoar – goal machine.
