Stevenage M2 travelled to Southgate for the first game of 2023. A tough week of selection meant that Stevenage had only 1 recognised defender in Paul Mickleburgh, leaving Tom Woolley rolling back the years to fill in at centre-back and Bradley Swain at right-back. It was always going to be a tough game but Stevenage produced some good hockey and went in at half time (frustratingly) 2-0 down.
Tired legs and unfamiliar positions took its toll in the second half, a few more goals for Adelaide came and went, with a last minute consolation from Tom Woolley bringing the final score to 7-1.
A tough result, but with a mix of Ryall Swartz, Danny Blackburn and Nick Umney having to also fill in at the back, it was more about keeping it positive and building for the second half of the season.
Move on to next week, points needed!
Report; Tom Woolley.
