After a heavy defeat on the opening day of the season the mighty M3s from Stevenage were looking for revenge against a well organised Bedford team.
The home side started strongly and from a great Harry Burrett (Cinders) strike the veteran and crocked Richard Brendish deftly fired in the opening goal.
Lots of Stevenage pressure but a uncharacteristic mistake from Damian Nowopolski saw the scores go level.
With the midfield generals John Mould and Ian Jacko Jackson dominating, Stevenage were ahead at the interval with a fine finish from Chris Day.
It was skipper Mould who scored the third with a mazy run and sublime finish. A miss hit we will never know!
Stevenage kept pressing but Bedford scored again after another cat flap error.
Defenders Danny Hanslow, Martyn Binge and Tony Aldred continued to keep the Bedford forwards at bay and up front Martin Swarbrick kept troubling the Bedford defence.
Now back to the injured Brendish - who despite being barely able to move suddenly like Lazarus he arose and somehow bundled the ball over the goal line for Stevenage’s 4th and his brace.
it was now one way traffic and Top Cat Cowan (the fairy godmother) won possession and made a fine pass to Jackson who weaved his way into the D and slotted home.
It ended 5-3 and the crowd could be heard to be chanting 5-3 to Stevenage and even Lazarus scored (Emile Heskey was at home with man flu).
Thanks to Mandy Lawrence and Roger Hammond for umpiring.
Match report - Ian Jackson.
