St Albans grab late winner

St Albans grab late winner

Jonathan Parker11 Oct - 19:21

Unlucky result but good play all round

M4's played their 3rd league game after a bye weekend last Saturday travelling to St Albans 9 looking to avenge for their 10 - 1 defeat last season at Oaklands in February. With Mike Hamid in goal and a back 4 of Graham Spicer, Kal Singh, Ian Noble and Pete Hindle. M4's started brightly in an even game. The LM of Jon Parker, RM of Lee Pickersgill and the 2 CM's of Josh Lake and Tony Farnan played well with Tony commanding the midfield well and creating chances for the strikers of Simon Russell and new debutant to the club Lawrie Western who was playing his first game of hockey since 2012. Kev Robbins came into CM and passed well with Xavi George coming on into LM and passing well and numerous times running well down the left wing putting balls into the D. Unfortunately M4's couldn't capitalise on their chances with the balls put into the D and the chances they had with the PC's they had earned, however, M4's defended well and were heading towards their first points of the season. With 3 minutes to go, however, St Albans had an opportunity that they created into the D. With tired legs M4's tried to clear the ball out of the D, however, a tap in from a St Albans stick on the post meant a final scoreline of 1 - 0 to St Albans 9. M4's had an opportunity to level the game at the end, however, the ball went wide of goal with no one to touch it in the D...overall a very good performance from all players which keeps M4's 2nd from bottom of the table on a superior goal difference to Saffron Walden 7's...POM Xavi George
