Following an impressive away victory last Saturday, the M4s welcomed Harpenden 4s for what was always set to be a stern test.
With Mike Hamid starting in goal, the defensive line was anchored by a back four of Graham Spicer, Kal Singh, Alex Lake, and Craig Shorrock.
Harpenden started on the front foot, catching the M4s off guard with three early goals in the 12th, 15th, and 17th minutes.
Despite the setback, heads never dropped. Mark Wrixon controlled the midfield brilliantly, driving forward and linking up neatly with fellow central midfielder Mehron Kirk.
On the left flank, Xavi George pushed forward well, feeding some dangerous passes through to striker Jacob Oliver. However, Harpenden managed to add a fourth seven minutes before the break.
The M4s returned for the second half determined to build on their strong midfield play. Mark Wrixon continued to dictate the tempo, supported by sharp runs on the right wing from Harry Umney.
Up front, Simon Russell and Jon Parker pressed hard and created several opportunities. The M4s came agonizingly close to breaking the deadlock from a penalty corner when Harry Umney’s powerful strike rattled off the Harpenden post.
Harpenden added two further goals—one seven minutes into the half and a penalty flick in the 28th minute—bringing the final score to 6–0.
Despite the result, the M4s battled heroically throughout and displayed excellent passing hockey, particularly in the second half.
